Printmaking is a technique used by artists to create art beyond the traditional brush. Printmaking methods have evolved over the centuries and have been used by both Western and Eastern artists. Famous artists using printmaking for their art - Picasso, Stella, Miro, Warhold, Shinoda, Murakami.
Relief prints are made by cutting on wood, lino or metal. Commonly known in Asia as woodcuts or woodblock prints. Intaglio includes etching, mezzotint, aquatint, chine-collé and drypoint. It involves the engraving on the surface of a metal plate and applying colour into the engravings. Lithography is probably closest to painting as the artist works on a flat surface using oil-based medium to create the artwork in a chemical process. Screen-printing is a stencil technique which creates flat usually colourful artworks.
